Morphia sulphate is Latin for Morphine

Morphine was prescribed for pain, GI issues, and nerves. At one point it was believed to relieve symptoms of opium and alcohol addiction.

Morphine is an opium derivative. Many soldiers became addicted to opioids during to alleviate pain and wounds from war. It escalated to an opioid crisis in the 1890s.
